What is mold?

Mold is a type of fungus that grows in the form of multicellular filaments called hyphae. Mold can be found both indoors and outdoors, often growing in damp or humid environments such as bathrooms, basements, attics, crawlspaces, and on plants or foods. It feeds off organic materials like wood, paper products, insulation materials, drywall compounds, carpeting and other fabrics. Mold produces microscopic spores that are released into the air where they can easily spread to other parts of the building or surrounding environment.
